Mitchelton Winery Complete

This garden needs no introduction, the historic Mitchelton Winery Garden was completed in 2019, but like most gardens it needed a few years of growth to really show its true potential and the garden at Mitchelton Winery does not disappoint. While the Miscanthus sinensis (silver grass) was in flower over the late summer and the Maple Trees Acer freemanii ‘Autumn Blaze’ were beginning to show their stunning autumn colour, we were lucky enough to visit with photographer David Mitchener.
Our vision for this garden was always to protect and link the history of the Winery, whilst celebrating and bringing in a new era, creating a seamless connection between the old and the new. To us it was imperative from the outset, that the new gardens blended sympathetically with the surrounding natural landscape. The materiality and planting palette was chosen to embrace the colours and textures to achieve this. Extensive use of board form concrete walls and sculptural rusted steel elements were also incorporated to define this landscape into several spaces to serve the varied public uses, required by this winery.
